The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy is a wholly remarkable book. It has been compiled and recompiled many times over many years and under many different editorships. It contains contributions from countless numbers of travellers and researchers.
The introduction begins like this:
“Space,” it says, “is big. Really big. You just won’t believe how vastly hugely mindboggingly big it is. I mean you may think it’s a long way down the road to the chemist, but that’s just peanuts to space. Listen…”
and so on.
What’s down the road over the hill? Fear of the unknown is hard to put aside when the inevitable will soon loom over the horizon. Whether it’s tomorrow or tonight, seemingly unending anxiety is surely in the cards. “Facing it squarely” calls for a more courageous man.
Yeah, there’s no getting around it… facing The Inevitable is unsettling, to put it mildly. Yet it is the way for all living things that ever were. How will we walk through that gate? When my time comes, I hope I remember to say and feel, “Precious Lord, take my hand”.
That would be nice. So far, my faith hasn’t been shaken. I’m no longer seeing only signs of oblivion; more of the promised life, everlasting. But, how are the lessons of this lifetime to be graded? Hope I’m not forgetting anything!
I’m counting on the promise of forgiveness when we sincerely ask for it.
Does fear of retribution qualify as sincerity? I cannot help but think that my mindset is far from accepting the power of it’s intention.
